Responsible for developing and implementing acquisition and retention membership strategies to grow ASCD’s member base, renew current members and reinstate lapsed members. This position manages the relationships with external vendors to achieve the membership department’s acquisition and retention goals. Working closely with the Managing Director, Integrated Services, this role supports the successful implementation and delivery of membership business strategies and initiatives. This position is responsible for making improvements in the processes, systems, and operations that support the membership acquisition and retention experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversee and manage the external membership marketing vendor to ensure the delivery of acquisition, retention and lapsed member communication campaigns from concept and strategy through design and delivery using direct response marketing channels and tactics that increase overall membership.
Drive profitable management and delivery of monthly member retention campaigns from strategy and concept through design and delivery using direct response channels and tactics that increase overall membership.
Recommend content and format changes to improve member response, reduce program costs and increase overall revenue.
Translate research and data about member needs into an actionable and measurable acquisition and retention campaigns.
Generate reports that track membership marketing efforts.
Establish and manage key vendor relationships and activities.
Collaborate effectively with other departments to expand opportunities to increase integrated membership enrollment programs and initiatives across the organization.
Help formulate and monitor annual and monthly budget and forecast of membership enrollments and revenue.
A degree in business administration, marketing, or a related field, is preferred.
In-depth understanding of the essential functions of membership acquisition and retention programs including identifying member segmentation, In-depth experience with direct mail and print production, mailing personalization and e-mail tactics including measurements for success.
Experience with e-mail and other digital delivery systems is desirable.
Working knowledge of database management systems for performing data queries, running reports, and generating forms.
Understanding of results analysis and how to interrupt these results to be able to implement program and creative enhancements to maximize future results.
Knowledge of website structure and content standards.
A certificate in direct marketing from DMA or other similar organization is helpful.

In-depth experience and ability to work with Microsoft Office to prepare reports, documents, correspondence, presentations, spreadsheets, etc.
Familiarity and ability to work with database records Salesforce experience desired.
Ability to learn and use web-based office applications for online collaboration and document/content management.
Five to eight years experience in a similar role using business-to-consumer direct marketing across both digital and print channels, specifically direct mail and email.
Association or nonprofit experience is preferred.
Direct experience forecasting and using database management systems to produce routine and complex data queries, reports, and forms are required.
