The American Chemistry Council (ACC), a national trade association representing the world’s leading chemical and plastics manufacturers, currently has an opportunity for Assistant General Counsel in its Legal Services Department. ACC represents its members on public policy issues; coordinates the industry’s research and testing programs; and administers Responsible Care®, the industry’s environment, health, safety and security performance improvement initiative.
The position is responsible for providing legal counsel and policy support on American Chemistry Council (ACC) advocacy issues related to chemical products, protecting ACCs legal interests, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws. The position is also responsible for managing legal matters in assigned areas, including assisting in the selection of outside counsel as needed, managing outside counsel, and ensuring projects come in at or below budget. The position coordinates legal issues with appropriate in-house ACC colleagues and reports directly to the Deputy General Counsel.
Required qualifications include a J.D. from an accredited law school and at least 7 years of experience as an attorney, strong negotiating skills and admission to the bar to practice law; strong written and oral communication skills, ability to process complex, technical, abstract verbal and written information for purposes of establishing a beneficial messaging framework, strategy, direction and action plans; ability to provide strategic counseling, develop plans and execute supporting tactics; ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects with competing priorities; proven ability to work in a team environment; environmental, health, safety, security, tax, and/or rail law and/or past experience working in a trade association or in-house counsel position preferred.
