The American Foreign Service Association (AFSA) seeks a part-time (15-20 hours a week) policy research assistant in its Professional Policy Issues directorate.
The research assistant should have at least 2 years of experience in a professional work setting. The research assistant must be well-organized, be able to create charts and graphs, preferably from Excel spreadsheets, and write clearly and succinctly. Previous experience in planning workshops and similar events would be a plus, as would previous experience with the Foreign Service, either as an employee or a family member. The research assistant must be familiar with social media platforms and the various ways they are used to disseminate content.
Obtain, organize, and easily retrieve continuously updated workforce data from the State Department to enable AFSA to tell the story of the Foreign Service. Maintain a data library that is used heavily to create AFSA’s written and video content.
Provide logistics support to AFSA professional and career workshops as well as its series of structured conversations with members.
Research information on the Foreign Service for use by AFSA principals, including AFSA board members.
Present content, particularly workforce data, in visual ways easily understood by AFSA’s audiences, using Microsoft and other programs.
